ICA opens a new Complex in Jerusalem

A moving opening ceremony of the new Israel Cancer Association complex in Jerusalem took place on Sunday, June 5, 2011.

The event was attended by, among others, Jerusalem’s Mayor, Mr. Nir Barkat, ICA’s Director General, Mrs. Miri Ziv, the donor’s representative, Mr. Emmanuel Blass, ICA representatives, volunteers and many guests.

Mr. Barkat indicated he was proud of the Israel Cancer Association's activities in Jerusalem and underlined the importance of the continuation of the cooperation between the Association and the municipality: "It is a big national and international challenge in research, prevention, in the alleviation of the suffering of cancer patients and their families".

The Mayor also signed the petition of the Union of the International Cancer Control (UICC) for the global fight against cancer diseases.

Mrs. Ziv declared: "The opening ceremony of the new complex also includes the "Strong Together" support center, named after Israel Jacob and Lila Alter, which enables a significant expansion of ICA's activities for patients, survivors and their families in and around Jerusalem. The new support center joins the other "Strong Together" centers that are operated by the Israel Cancer Association throughout the country, and which offer a large range of activities for the body and soul, such as Yoga, meditation, art classes and a variety of exercises".

The Israel Cancer Association believes that mental and emotional aspects are of crucial importance for the healing process. The support center enables participants to assist and be assisted in the improvement of their quality of life and in the confrontation of the disease during the recovery process.
