As every summer in recent years, the Israel Cancer Association (ICA) is launching a joint informational "Sun Smart" campaign with Disney Channel Israel. The informational campaign is currently being aired on the Disney Channel and will continue to be aired until the end of the summer vacation - when children in Israel are more exposed to the sun and watch more TV.

As part of this educational campaign, clips starring favorite Disney characters from the Phineas and Ferb series as well as The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, for younger viewers, will be aired on Disney Channel. These clips will provide emphases and tips for young viewers about sun smart behavior.

Phineas and Ferb is a well-liked children's and youth's TV show that has consistently maintained high ratings since it first aired on the Disney Channel. This is a fun-filled animated series full of imagination and humor, featuring wonderful characters, plot and music. Since its launch in 2008 the series has been broadcasted on Disney channels in over 135 countries and in 26 languages around the globe.

These clips include several sun smart behavior rules such as: being outdoors during sun safe hours, staying in the shade, wearing a hat, protective clothing, and sunglasses, drinking plenty of fluids, and applying sunscreen. Additionally, to increase viewers' involvement in the informational campaign, the clips refer the children to a targeted site where they are exposed to the campaign's educational messages and will be able to rank their favorite clip and win a "sun smart" gift.

Miri Ziv, ICA Director General said that: "Sun smart education needs to begin at a young age and children's programs in the media constitute an important tool for conveying these messages. The ICA endeavors to enhance awareness of the harmful effects of the sun in other venues such as: preschools, classrooms in elementary schools, summer camps, etc.".

Shahar Davidson, Head of Marketing, Disney Channel Israel: "As every year, this year the Disney Channel will be airing the "sun smart" campaign as part of its collaboration with the ICA.  Conveying messages relating to sun smart behavior using quality content sprinkled with humor and featuring children's favorite characters, is the right and effective way to encourage proper behavior in the sun for a healthier future for our kids".
