The Annual School Competition for Tobacco Prevention named after Dr. Marcus of blessed memory is held in conjunction with the Israel Cancer Association, the Ministry of Education's Psychological and Counseling Services (Shefi) and the League for the Prevention of Lung Diseases.

  • The Annual Competition between schools is held each year at the end of May in conjunction with World No Tobacco Day.  The competition is held at ICA headquarters in Givatayim and culminates a year of anti-smoking education in schools around Israel.

  • Dozens of schools from across the country submit their students' projects and initiatives on smoking prevention to the judging committee and a few select schools reach the finals and receive awards.

  • The students prepare diverse projects, highlighting smoking prevention and heightened awareness of the harmful effects of smoking. During the final ceremony, their projects are displayed through presentations, video clips, posters and more. All the participants receive a certificate of appreciation for their participation.

  • The idea for the competition was conceived in 1999 by the late Dr. Marcus, who served as Chairman of the League for the Prevention of Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis. The competition was named in his honor after his demise.
