Professor Eliezer Robinson

more

Professor Eliezer Robinson, Former Chairman of the Israel Cancer Association (ICA) and senior oncologist, began his career as an oncologist in 1957 at the Hadassah Medical Center.

In 1968, he established the Oncology Center at Rambam Medical Center, and developed the field of oncology in general in the northern part of Israel.

He served as Vice-President of the ICA from 1971 to 1995, and in 1996 he was appointed Chairman of the ICA, a position in which he has been serving on a volunteer basis ever since.

Professor Robinson became aware, in his clinical work over the years, of the increase in cancer survivors who develop a second primary tumor (at a higher frequency than healthy individuals). He published more than 20 papers on the clinical characteristics of patients who develop a second primary tumor as compared to patients with primary and single tumors and described the difference in more than 10 different tumors.

In view of the fact that the number of cancer survivors has been steadily increasing in recent years, Professor Robinson has explored the needs of cancer survivors in Israel as compared to survivors in the United States.

Professor Robinson has also lectured to physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists and other healthcare professionals across Israel to make them aware of the needs of survivors.

In 2000, in his capacity as Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) President, he was invited to sign the Charter of Paris with over 100 international leaders. Since then, as Chairman of the ICA, he has been promoting cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection among the healthy population, cancer patients and all who can and should contribute to this important subject, to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality and improve quality of life of cancer patients and survivors.

He published over 220 articles, mostly in International Medical Journals and more than 170 abstracts.
