The Israel Cancer Association was established in 1952 with the aim of reducing cancer incidence and mortality and enhancing the quality of life of patients.
The ICA is a non-profit organization that operates thanks to public donations, receiving no government subsidies whatsoever. Hence the assistance offered by the ICA is impartial, provided without any unrelated considerations, and its activity is supervised by
professional committees
comprised of leading medical staff and research scientists who serve on a volunteer basis.
The projects that are supported by the ICA are carefully reviewed and selected solely according to professional criteria and national priorities.
ICA's local initiatives and a proud record of achievement have earned ICA widespread public recognition, both nationally and internationally. The ICA has numerous Friends of the ICA groups in several countries abroad, and represents noteworthy forums in Israel and around the world.
The President of the State of Israel serves as Patron of the ICA, and the
late Suzy Eban
served as its Founding President; its current Honorary President is
Prof. Aharon Ciechanover
, 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Laureate.
Prof. Eliezer Robinson

The ICA has a small Executive Board comprised of public figures, medical professionals, research scientists, and Board of Trustees.
About 3,500 volunteers are active in 70 ICA branches dispersed throughout the country. The volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities for the welfare of cancer patients, and also in diverse public information activities, in order to increase awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection.
