How do you transform the beach into a walk-in skin clinic?

20/08/2012

The Israel Cancer Association (ICA), in a collaborative initiative with Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, Dept. of Plastic Surgery, Rishon Municipality and the Rishon LeZion Municipal Company, held a skin examination "campaign" on the beach in Rishon LeZion on Friday, August 17, 2012.

Over 300 beachgoers who were at Rishon LeZion beach on that day responded to the call to undergo a non-invasive skin examination, administered completely free of charge and aimed at detecting skin cancer at the early stages and preventing the disease.

The examinations were conducted by expert plastic surgeons representing the Institute for the Detection of Pigment Lesions of Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, who arrived at the beach and transformed it into a clinic in a matter of several hours.

An ICA information booth was set up where people could receive explanations on skin safety in addition to informational brochures on the harmful effects of the sun, sun exposure prevention methods, and the importance of early detection.

ICA Health Day

The beachgoers enjoyed a plethora of additional activities during Health Day, including: physical activity - Zumba, a health shake workshop and Nordic walking activity.

Every year, the ICA reminds beachgoers to be "sun smart" and to go outdoors only during safe hours, wear a hat, sunglasses, and appropriate clothing and apply sunscreen lotion.
