The ICA launched a new and unique project inviting patients, families and survivors who are currently coping and have coped in the past with cancer, to a "get acquainted" meeting and a morning of fun over a cup of coffee; this informal gathering aims to introduce participants to the ICA's activity, as well as to the ways the Association may provide them with assistance.
According to Mrs. Miri Ziv, ICA Director General: "Even though there are tens of thousands of entries to the ICA website and the Telemeida hotline receives thousands of incoming calls each month, we still encounter patients and family members who are sometimes "paralyzed" by a crisis situation which leaves them helpless; consequently, it is important that we reach out to them, assist them with information and explanations, and provide them with guidance and emotional support.
The ICA holds over 1,400 diverse activities each year at ICA Headquarters located at Beit Mati in Givatayim, and hundreds of other activities at the ICA's 70 branches dispersed throughout the country. The activities include a wide range of support groups, workshops, seminars, and welfare activities for the body and mind.
Similarly, the ICA offers the Telemeida service, informational materials and a Support Center to the general and patient populations; these services are available in Hebrew, Russian and Arabic. All ICA activities are provided free of charge, and it is important that people know that they can contact the ICA anytime and benefit from these important services."
At the "get acquainted" meeting, a social worker will give participants an overview of ICA activities as well as details on assistance options available. Later on, they will be given a "taste" of one of the many activities conducted by the ICA, a trial Pilates lesson, and practical tips on how to find information on the internet - guiding patients to find solutions and empowering them to help themselves.
"Strong Together" is a unique community center run by the ICA, which offers emotional and social support for cancer patients, survivors, and their families, and is also the venue for support groups, workshops, lectures, lessons and other activities held throughout the year.
A meeting was held free of charge on April 11, 2013, at the "Strong Together" Center at ICA Headquarters, Beit Mati, 7 Revivim St., Givatayim.
