As the summer approaches, the Israel Cancer Association is launching a new and unique brochure called "Sun Smart is where it's at!" aimed at teens.
The new brochure is full of tips and explanations on how to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays, and features cool photos that appeal to young people, as well as a flowing writing style tailored especially for teens.
According to Edna Peleg-Olevsky, ICA Spokesperson and Director of the Public Information and Education Department.: "In a survey that we conducted about a year ago among teens, we saw that there has been increased awareness of the harmful effects of the sun (skin cancer, burns), and of the need to use protective sun screen products, however this heightened awareness has not been translated into sufficient action, and a significant percentage of teens (66%) still reported that they don't go to the beach at safe hours, and a significant percentage reported that they suffered from sun burns (49%). This is why we have decided to address teens directly this year, in a language and with photos that "speak" to them. We hope that just as we have succeeded in changing behavior patterns of parents, who are now more "sun smart", we will also succeed in changing teens' behavior patterns".
The brochures are currently being sent to junior high and high schools across Israel, free of charge, as part of the informational materials distributed by the ICA.
