According to National Cancer Registry of the Ministry of Health statistics, there are some 200,000 cancer patients and survivors in Israel today, and about 28,000 individuals are newly diagnosed with the disease each year.
The ICA endeavors on a year-round basis to promote maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, cancer prevention and early detection awareness, and lends its assistance to enhance treatment and rehabilitation services offered to cancer patients and survivors across Israel.
Public donations enable the ICA to:
Fund dozens of research studies, which help find a cure for the disease.
Finance nursing, psychology, dietician and social work jobs for professionals who attend to cancer patients in hospitals.
Conduct public information activities to increase cancer prevention awareness.
Initiate and establish national early detection programs for timely diagnosis of different types of cancers to boost cure rates.
Help childhood cancer patients keep up with their schoolwork.
Run summer vacation camps for cancer patients, survivors and their families.
Assist in the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment for oncology centers.
Lend a hand in the set-up of oncology departments at medical centers throughout Israel.
Advocate for cancer patients and survivors and promote their rights, and the list goes on and on.
Tens of thousands of school-age children and teens, members of youth movements, and ICA volunteers will be going door-to-door to collect funds from potential Israeli donor households starting Monday.
Mrs. Rivka Balistra, ICA Branches Department Director and "Door Knock" Fundraising Campaign Manager made a public appeal for financial support:
"Tens of thousands of school-age children, members of youth movements and ICA volunteers will be taking part in the fundraising campaign - including new immigrants, volunteers from the Arab and Bedouin population, as well as cancer survivors.
The ICA works in close collaboration with the education system, and has a network of volunteers throughout Israel in more than 70 ICA branches. Our aim is to visit every Israeli household from north to south, including Israeli embassies across the globe. The children will reach all cities, kibbutzim and moshavim, as well as all segments of the Israeli population.
You are asked to verify that you have received an official ICA receipt (please see below). I call upon the public to open their hearts and donate".
