The Labor, Welfare and Health Committee of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) passed bill prohibiting smoking in sports stadiums stands

11/03/2014

The Labor, Welfare and Health Committee of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) passed a bill initiated by MK Adi Koll (Yesh Atid) prohibiting smoking in sports facilities (open stadiums).  The bill will be brought to the Knesset plenary for a preliminary reading.

This bill will prohibit smoking in sports facilities, with the exception of two separate seating areas, the number of which shall not exceed a fourth of the number of seats in the entire stadium.

The Israel Cancer Association contacted the Israel Football League Administration about a year and a half ago, with a proposal to allocate a separate stand for smokers, which will enable non-smoking spectators at football stadiums to enjoy clean, smoke-free air at football games.

The ICA commends the Committee for approving the bill and promoting this issue.
